Artist Statement

Nature, in its various seasons, is my primary inspiration. I am both a plein-air observer and a studio artist. While working outdoors, I interpret what appears, often fleetingly, before me. I get caught up in the composition, design, and colors that nature offers and allow the scene to unfold on my canvas through expressive brushwork and a rich palette. Back in my studio, I will usually refine my initial impression as I work to complete each canvas over time. Recently, I’ve also been exploring mixed-media portraits using photography combined with oil paint, oil stick, and medium on canvas.
